Amyris Biotechnologies combines break-through technology and unique insights in the transportation fuels sector to bring environmentally friendly fuels to market. Amyris is leveraging its technology platform, which was developed as part of an earlier project to reduce costs to produce artemisinin-based anti-malarial drugs, to provide a cost-competitive bio-gasoline, a bio-diesel, and a bio-jet solution that works in current engines and distribution infrastructure without compromising fuel performance. All Amyris biofuels are designed to provide consumers and end users uncompromising alternatives to petroleum-based fuels.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with the analytical chemistry department to develop/qualify methods for small molecule characterization/quantification.
  • Perform routine maintenance and performance tests on analytical instrumentation.
  • Order supplies and perform laboratory housekeeping tasks.
  • Prepare laboratory notebooks, technical reports, and SOP’s covering research.


Requirements

  • B.S. degree in chemistry or related discipline. Experience in small molecule characterization/quantification is desired.
  • Experience using gas chromatography, liquid chromatography, and mass spectrometry for small molecule identification/quantification, is required preferred. (revised)
  • Knowledgeable in maintenance of analytical instrumentation.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Requires good teamwork, communication and data handling skills.
  • Energetic, highly self-motivated and able to work efficiently and productively in a start-up company environment.


Desired Experience

  • Hands-on development experience in experimental design, sample preparation and optimization of chromatographic conditions.
  • Experience in performing protein/enzyme purifications and kinetic or bio-assays of enzymes.
  • Familiarity with statistical methods for design-of-experiment.
  • Familiarity with establishment of reference standards and reference materials.
