Amyris Biotechnologies combines break-through technology and unique insights in the transportation fuels sector to bring environmentally friendly fuels to market. Amyris is leveraging its technology platform, which was developed as part of an earlier project to reduce costs to produce artemisinin-based anti-malarial drugs, to provide a cost-competitive bio-gasoline, a bio-diesel, and a bio-jet solution that works in current engines and distribution infrastructure without compromising fuel performance. All Amyris biofuels are designed to provide consumers and end users uncompromising alternatives to petroleum-based fuels.

Job Description

We are seeking a Pilot Plant Process Engineer to function as a technical expert for process operations in microbial fermentation, downstream processing, purification and final chemistry. The successful candidate will interact closely with Fermentation and Chemical Process Development scientists and engineers to effectively scale-up and transfer processes developed for production of biofuels.


Responsibilities

  • Work in a hands-on capacity to operate fermentors, centrifuges, filtration and hydrogenation equipment
  • Demonstrate innovative and efficient solutions to solving problems while considering the implications of the corrective action
  • Develop a strong working relationship with Fermentation and Chemical Process Development, and Facilities Operation groups
  • Provide support for existing and new process equipment
  • Lead projects to identify, provide specifications, procure and startup new equipment
  • Author and review SOP’s and batch records
  • Train plant operators on unit operations
  • Follow strict adherence to all safety procedures and policies as well as identify and provide corrective action of any unsafe procedures
  • Participate in technical transfers to second Amyris Pilot Plant facility


Requirements

  • BS in chemical engineering or a related Biological Science field with 2 to 5 years of relevant industrial experience
  • Practical and applied knowledge of fermentation, centrifugation, filtration and hydrogenation, SIP/CIP unit operations
  • cGMP experience is a plus
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as project demands require including weekends and off hours
