Amyris Biotechnologies combines break-through technology and unique insights in the transportation fuels sector to bring environmentally friendly fuels to market. Amyris is leveraging its technology platform, which was developed as part of an earlier project to reduce costs to produce artemisinin-based anti-malarial drugs, to provide a cost-competitive bio-gasoline, a bio-diesel, and a bio-jet solution that works in current engines and distribution infrastructure without compromising fuel performance. All Amyris biofuels are designed to provide consumers and end users uncompromising alternatives to petroleum-based fuels.
Responsibilities
The Group Leader will lead team of 3-5 researchers (scientists, RAs and Lab technicians) on metabolic engineering related to fuels development program. Responsible for developing and implementing research plan for work team. Manage recruiting, development and evaluation of work team members. The Group Lead is accountable for achievement of technical milestones for work team based on research plan. Provide technical leadership to organization on specific area of focus. Primary responsible for communication within R&D organization. Frequent interaction with direct reports, collaborators and peer groups. Interface with senior management in biology (reporting to director of fuels biology). Prepare technical reports, summaries, protocols, and quantitative analyses.
Requirements:
- Excellent scientific credentials
- Ph.D. in Molecular microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, biochemical engineering, or a related field.
- 4-10 yrs. Experience including Post Doc
- Worked on scientific problems of “moderate” scope
- Proven track record in tackling scientific challenges
- Experience leading teams of 3-5 researchers or more
- Independently developed and implemented research plans
- Experience leading problem-solving within team
- Comfortable with aggressive timelines
Experience with the following desired:
- Yeast or bacterial physiology
- Microbial metabolism
- Metabolic Engineering.
