AMYRIS BIOTECHNOLOGIES ANNOUNCES NEW BOARD MEMBER AND ADDITIONS TO ITS BIOFUELS MANAGEMENT TEAM

Emeryville, CA - June 26, 2007 - Amyris Biotechnologies today announced the addition of energy industry veteran Ralph Alexander to its Board of Directors as well as key additions to the senior management team.

Amyris Biotechnologies, founded in 2003 by Dr. Jay Keasling, Professor of Chemical Engineering at U.C. Berkeley, and his three post-doctoral fellows, is the leader in second generation biofuels research using microbial factories to make environmentally friendly fuels.

Mr. Alexander brings over 25 years of experience and proven success in the oil and gas and petrochemicals sector to Amyris. Most recently, Mr. Alexander served as the Chief Executive Officer of Innovene, the olefins and derivatives subsidiary of British Petroleum (BP). In that role, he established Innovene as a stand-alone company then subsequently oversaw its sale to the INEOS Group for $9 billion in 2005. Prior to Innovene, Mr. Alexander held various executive level positions at BP, including, CEO of Gas, Power & Renewables, CEO of Air BP, and Group Vice President responsible for new markets development. Mr. Alexander holds bachelor and master degrees in nuclear engineering from Brooklyn Polytechnic. He also spent a year at Stanford University as a Sloan Fellow where he earned a masters degree in business administration.

Amyris also announced key senior management positions including:

  • Paul Adams, Senior Vice President, Fuels;
  • Jim Alderman, Vice President, Supply and Trading; and
  • Ena Chan Cratsenburg, Vice President, Business Development.

Mr. Adams joins Amyris with more than 25 years of experience in the fuels supply and trading business. During his tenure at BP, Mr. Adams established himself as one of its most senior and respected executives in the downstream oil sector. Mr. Adams headed up BP's Integrated Supply and Trading organization where he led a team of 600+ professionals and managed all supply and trading of BP's Americas oil portfolio.

Mr. Alderman brings over 25 years of in-depth expertise in the downstream aspects of the oil business. He held various senior management positions at BP and the Tosco Refining Company, including Regional Vice President of BP's US Fuels Retail Business Unit, Vice President of Operations of BP's US Commercial Fuels Business Unit, and Vice President of Supply and Trading at Tosco.

Ms. Cratsenburg joins Amyris with more than 16 years of business experience. Most recently, she was Director of Business Development for Pixar Animation Studios where she led efforts to develop and grow partnerships for distribution and the monetization of Pixar's intellectual property assets. Prior to Pixar, Ms. Cratsenburg spent nine years at BP and Amoco Oil Company where she held various managerial positions within the Refining and Marketing Segment, including head of Business Development for U.S. Commercial Fuels and Area Operations Manager for distribution terminals in seven states.
